Jeff Kinney is a New York Times bestselling author and cartoonist best known for his wildly popular Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. Born in Maryland in 1971, Kinney developed a love for drawing and writing at a young age. He attended the University of Maryland, where he created a comic strip called "Igdoof" for the campus newspaper. After college, Kinney worked as a computer programmer and game designer before quitting to pursue his dream of becoming a cartoonist. He eventually created the character of Greg Heffley and wrote the first Diary of a Wimpy Kid book, which was published in 2007. Since then, Kinney has written and illustrated multiple books in the series, which has been translated into over 70 languages and adapted into a successful film franchise. In addition to his work on Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Kinney also created the spin-off series Diary of an Awesome Friendly Kid: Rowley Jefferson's Journal. He currently lives in Massachusetts with his wife and two sons.
