Rick Riordan is an American author known for writing young adult fantasy novels. Born on June 5, 1964, Riordan grew up in San Antonio, Texas and attended the University of Texas at Austin. After working as a teacher for 15 years, he began writing stories for his son who was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia. His first novel, "The Lightning Thief," was published in 2005 and became the first book in the popular Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. Riordan has since written multiple series including The Kane Chronicles, Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, and Trials of Apollo.
