Creator Bio
Thanhhà Lai is a Vietnamese-born American author who has received critical acclaim for her young adult and children's books. Before becoming a writer, she worked as a journalist and a high school teacher. Lai's family fled Vietnam in the aftermath of the Vietnam War and she spent her childhood in a refugee camp in Alabama before settling in the United States. Her personal experiences as a refugee and immigrant greatly influence her writing, which often explores themes of displacement, identity, and resilience. Lai's debut novel, Inside Out & Back Again, won the National Book Award for Young People's Literature and she continues to write powerful and poignant stories that give voice to the immigrant experience.
