Thanhhà Lai is a Vietnamese-born American author who has received critical acclaim for her young adult and children's books. Before becoming a writer, she worked as a journalist and a high school teacher. Lai's family fled Vietnam in the aftermath of the Vietnam War and she spent her childhood in a refugee camp in Alabama before settling in the United States.
