This book is a celebration of 13 American immigrants of color, from world-famous to local heroes, politicians, surgeons, athletes, activists and more.
The biographies include engineer and astronaut Anousheh Ansari; Paralympic athlete and entrepreneur Alejandro Albor; surgeon Ayub Khan Ommaya; jazz musician Candido Camero; dancer Conceicao Damasceno; Sriracha inventor and businessman David Tran; basketball player Dikembe Mutombo; author Edwidge Danticat; politician Ilhan Omar; comic artist Jim Lee; environmental activist Juana Guttierez; cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and the Undocupoets, a group of undocumented poets.

Aida Salazar is an award-winning author, activist, and educator. She was born and raised in the United States and is of Mexican heritage. Salazar's passion for writing and storytelling began at a young age and has led her to publish several acclaimed books for young readers. She is known for her powerful and poignant storytelling that centers around themes of identity, family, and social justice. In addition to writing, Salazar also works as a writing coach and leads workshops and presentations on writing and social justice issues. She currently lives in Oakland, California with her husband and two sons. Alina Chau is an illustrator and animator based in Los Angeles, California. Born and raised in Hong Kong, Chau brings her multicultural background and experiences to her vibrant and detailed illustrations. She has worked on numerous projects in the animation industry and has also illustrated several children's books. Chau's illustrations have been recognized and awarded by prestigious organizations such as the Society of Illustrators and the Asia Pacific Illustration Awards. She is passionate about using her art to promote diversity and representation in children's literature.
