The Pioneer Valley Bookstore Crawl first launched in 2025 with 7 bookstores, sparked by a conversation that started among a few of us at a regional bookseller conference. Adding more bookstores was the biggest piece of feedback we received from the first year but we also heard from a lot of participants that they liked being able to complete it in one day or weekend. In order to juggle both of these asks (and to keep the barriers to participation low), we revised the structure of the bookstore crawl to add different prize tiers and expanded the number of participating bookstores to 16 to include the bookstores that were most requested in year one. If there are any specific bookstores you’d like to see involved in the future or if you have any other feedback about the crawl, please send us an email at hello@highfivebooks.org so we can see what valley residents are looking for when we begin planning next year (a process which starts in January). Our intention is that the bookstore crawl will grow sustainably each year and become a longstanding tradition in the valley.
