Running on the Wind

Cassidy Montes was hatched and raised under an incredible rock in western Massachusetts. (She literally lived under a rock.) Her life was practically perfect - but not quite. Cassidy had never learned how to fly by jumping out of a nest. So, she had walked (and RUN) everywhere her entire life, when most birds would have flown. But with practice - and help from Penny and Magnus - Cassidy goes from a runner, to a flier, to a brave, new friend. 

Lesson 1: If you trust yourself, it will all be okay in the end. 

Lesson 2: You can do anything if you set your mind to it. 

The Red Fred Project finds children living in extraordinary circumstances and asks them the question: if you could write a book for the entire world to read, what would it be about? Running on the Wind was cowritten by Merlin Waldron when they were 16 years old! Merlin has a rare, random genetic mutation know as Progeria which causes rapid aging of the body. There are less than 200 people living on earth with this condition, for which there is no known cure.
