Since 2019, our team has hosted hundreds of authors, illustrators, and kidlit luminaries in pursuit of our mission:
To joyfully connect kids, families, and educators with awesome and inclusive books that represent the world around them—and the world that just might be.
And? We're just getting started!
But our bookstore is merely 1000 square feet, which only holds up to 50 people. So anytime we expect a larger crowd, we need to move offsite to one of the incredible nonprofit venues around Northampton.
And that means paying for:
- venue rental and staffing
- audio/visual and technical support
- additional bookstore staffing
If an author or illustrator is visiting from out of town, we often have to cover their travel expenses and lodging. And if a creator is not on a book tour, we also pay their well-deserved speaking fee. (We dream of always being able to compensate our visitors for their valuable effort and time!)
And? We try to make all of our events as inexpensive as possible to make them the most accessible to families. We implement a pay-what-you-can ticketing policy and/or save sections of our venue for free seats.
